The purpose of Read Across America is to motivate children to read. It is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school. It is my proposal that The FDHA participate with elementary schools in Fulton and DeKalb Counties to read to/with children grades Kindergarten-3rd grade on March 2nd to help combat low health literacy in future generations. Since 2018, The Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority has been participating in Read Across America. The staff and volunteers have read to approximately 1,000 students using over 50 age-appropriate books throughout Fulton and DeKalb counties. This year, the FDHA will be streaming its participation in the Read Across America Day on our Youtube channel for private viewing by our participating schools.
