Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins October 1st and there has been much progress made since the 30+ years this was launched in 1987. The tireless efforts have been made to support domestic violence survivors, hold abusers accountable, and create and update legislation to further those goals. According to the CDC, about 1 in 4 women and nearly 1 in 10 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime. Intimate partner violence starts early and continues through the lifespan. Promoting healthy, respectful, and nonviolent relationships and communities can help reduce the occurrence of intimate partner violence. The Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority would like to remind our community of the resources that are available, here are some of our partners that are doing good work in the areas around domestic violence Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Raksha, Partnership Against Domestic Violence.
