Join the FDHA this September 18th as we recognize National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day. The CDC reports that in 2017 there were 6,640 Americans aged 50 and older diagnosed with HIV. It is important to remember that HIV risk factors for all adults are the same. Risk factors for HIV include: having unprotected sex, sharing needles, consuming alcohol and recreational drugs, having a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), transmitted from HIV positive mother to child during birth or breastfeeding. On this day, the FDHA highlights the importance of HIV prevention, testing, and treatment for people aged 50 and older. For more HIV testing locations, please visit AID Atlanta and the Empowerment Resource Center.
