Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Mental Health, minorities are less likely to receive a diagnosis and treatment for their mental illness, have less access to and availability of mental health services, and often receive a poorer quality of mental health care. The National Alliance on Mental Illness states that each year in the U.S. every 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 6 children are affected by mental illness. Also, mental illness is a leading cause of disability and most racial and ethnic groups diagnosed with a mental illness do not seek treatment. This month, The Fulton DeKalb Hospital Authority has made it our mission to raise awareness of mental health. The FDHA is proud to support our mental health community partners, Summit Counseling, and Odyssey Family Counseling.
