August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that breastfeeding exclusively (no water, formula, or juice) during the first 6 months provides all the nutrition an infant needs. Breastmilk also has antibodies that strengthen your baby’s immune system for fighting off bacteria and viruses. Mothers also benefit from breastfeeding. Studies show that breastfeeding can reduce women’s risk of breast and ovarian cancer. For more information about breastfeeding visit https://www.womenshealth.gov/breastfeeding
